Red Heart Cutting Board handcrafted from Fir wood was made to beautifully prep and display all types of wonderful treats for that someone special! This board is softer and lighter than the Maple which makes it ideal for individual serving boards that can easily be carried around.
We had a request for a Red Heart Board, a Raspberry Red to be specific and so we obliged and here it is!! It's so interesting to see all the red and pink tones coming through once it was distressed and sanded, some raspberry red, some lipstick red, a little pink, such an interesting combination, don't you think!!
This board was handcrafted using Fir wood a very versatile and sustainable wood. It is a softwood which would make it more suitable for a prep board for softer food like cheese or veggies and would be a wonderful small serving board.
Beautiful way to display for holidays, use as a serving board, or serve up a wonderful spread of mixed goodies on it as a charcuterie board or food platter.
This board was roughened, distressed on the top, then sanded so it feels "smooth" (although rough texture), to the touch. The white side was prepped and coated with Canadian made Fusion Mineral Paint which has no toxic fillers and is a ZERO VOC product. Once cured, it was distressed to give it a lovely worn look as if it has served numerous holiday and family gatherings and to instill the cherished memory of "headin' home"
The bottom side was left with a natural finish for cutting or prepping food and has been prepped smooth as silk, larger natural cracks or knot holes, if present, were sealed with a vegetable based resin, soaked in all natural food safe Canadian made Hemp Oil, allowed to set, burnished with ultrafine grit to prep for use.
Fir wood is a softwood which is well suited to be used as a prep/serving board or is equally at home serving up Charcuterie plates of soft cheese, veggies and prepared cold cuts. If serving food on the "painted" side it is recommended to use parchment paper for ease of cleanup and if concerned about the painted surface.
We worked hard to replicate the handcrafted look and feel of this very special board by trying not to over work the shape and finish working with and around the natural blemish's or defects to try to keep it looking like a board that came out of a handcrafted workshop. This unique board will be equally at home in an ultra chic penthouse, or a small apartment multipurpose decor, all way to a rustic cabin overlooking a wilderness lake.
Natural cupping and fine cracks is perfectly normal with any type of wood board and will not affect the integrity of the board and could enhance the authentic look.

Board Safety: As with any painted surface we don't recommend to place any food in direct contact with any painted surface, should you decide to serve on the painted side, simply place parchment paper down first and the food on top plus much easier to clean up afterwards. Smooth, natural side is finished with all natural Hemp Oil and is safe for food contact.
